Larissa Vogler – council candidate Ward 6

Why should constituents consider voting for you?

As a lifelong resident of Lighthouse Cove, I have personally experienced how much our rural communities have changed since amalgamation and I share my fellow Ward 6 residents’ frustration over the lack of resources and services allocated to our ward.

I will work for the fair and equitable distribution of funds for all, but especially Ward 6 where we have felt neglected for so long. It is time to prioritize our small communities and bring them up to the standard of the rest of the municipality. I will be a strong advocate who will employ practicality and reason when working with council, and I am committed to being accessible, communicative, and transparent with members of the community.

Top three concerns across the municipality:

Infrastructure investment – We require significant upgrades to many of our roads, sewers and drainage systems and we must invest in upgrading our infrastructure.  These necessary upgrades will also attract more growth, thus increasing our tax base which will help prevent raising existing tax rates.

Equitable budgeting – Our rural wards are under-serviced, and residents want to see their tax dollars being spent where they live.  It’s time to focus on fiscal responsibility and equitable treatment for all of Lakeshore.  From our libraries to our parks, we deserve significant upgrades and development in Ward 6.

Responsible representation –The future of Lakeshore must be determined by its residents.  Communication and consultation are essential so that taxpayers can be the ultimate decision makers on issues that will directly impact them (for example, Short Term Rental bylaws, Large Scale Greenhouse developments, Emergency Medical Services, etc.).

Tell us about yourself

I grew up in Lighthouse Cove in a family committed to public and community service.  Growing up rurally instilled in me a passion for conservation and a respect for our wildlife.  I have always had a strong work ethic and my earliest experiences were right here on local farms, de-tasselling corn and canning tomatoes!  After attending university, I started my career in the travel industry which ultimately led to a position in corporate management (marketing and development).  Today, I continue to consult with companies in the travel sector while also working with my husband of 18 years on our small business, “Get Out and Save”, the fundraising coupon book that we created together over a decade ago.  I am committed to carrying on my family’s legacy of service, advocating for our rural communities and participating as an active member of the Lighthouse Cove Lions Club.  I hope to use my knowledge, experience, and energy to serve the residents of Ward 6 as their next councillor.
