Paddy Byrne – council candidate Ward 2

Why should constituents consider voting for you?

Experience.  As a candidate, I bring that.  I was on Maidstone/Lakeshore council for seven years and two years as a Catholic School board trustee previous to that.

One thing I always packed in my briefcase was the best interests of my constituents.  I respond to inquiries and questions in a timely manner and regularly open to discussing issues that affect Lakeshore residents.

Top three concerns across the municipality:

The top three issues as I see them are flooding, infrastructure, and better planning for the future.

Flooding: Many people in our municipality have had issues with flooding, sometimes several times within a few years.  We have to make sure we have back-ups for when the electricity goes out and we encounter issues.  Along with sewers and sewage capacity, the electrical grid needs to be maintained to help us with this.

Infrastructure: It’s getting more and more difficult to safely pull onto Country Road 22.  When we’re planning future developments, traffic flow needs to be better integrated.

Planning for the future: I feel growth could be better planned.  When I was last on council, we successfully planned the gem of Lakeshore – the Atlas Tube Centre.  With more houses being built and families moving to Lakeshore, we need councillors with a vision for the future.  More parks and recreation facilities, better maintenance of our roads and sewers.

Tell us about yourself.

I’ve been married for 43 years.  My wife and I have been living, running businesses, raising our three children and attending church in Lakeshore for over 40 years.  I helped found Belle River Minor Soccer and have been active as a coach and referee for over 35 years.

I’ve been a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 35 years, including the past 3 as Grand Knight.

I’m a retired addictions counselor at Hôtel-Dieu Grace, and have dedicated my life to helping others.  I look forward to representing Ward 2 on council once again.
