Ryan McNamara – council candidate Ward 1

Why should constituents consider voting for you?

I have a strong desire to give back to my community. My goal, if elected, is to represent the residents with an open mind, a strong vision for the future and the ability to work with the council to deliver the best for the residents. There are many challenges facing the community and it will take open communication, hard work and determination to take it forward. We must be able to listen to the residents and deliver solutions which are best for all. Clear and concise communication is key to getting ones message across and to work through issues.

Top three concerns across the municipality:

Infrastructure improvements. First and foremost, this would be focused on storm and sanitary sewer improvements. In older sections of the municipality, we need to eliminate combined storm and sanitary sewers. With the issue of flooding, we need to determine the leading causes of flow restrictions to improve the handling of storm water. We need to continue to maintain our roads while also replacing the older dirt roads. Lastly, we need to also continue to expand our bike and trail network to foster a healthy, connected community.

Park improvements. There is a large budgetary deficit for park maintenance and improvements. We need to focus on eliminating this so that each resident has access to great parks. Parks are important to promote healthy living and bring the neighborhoods together.

Sustainable development. There needs to be better long-term planning with regards to municipality development, so that we have the infrastructure and services in place before the development. Too often it seems the opposite happens, leading to road congestion as traffic exceeds the road capacity. Proper planning is required to avoid these issues.
