Dave Monk – candidate deputy mayor of Lakeshore

Why should constituents consider voting for you?

It starts with raising three now adult children here in Lakeshore where my wife Patti and I are proud to live.

I was driven by passion for this area to make good changes as a councillor for Lakeshore’s most successful eight years from 2010 to 2018.

I have been walking hundreds of kilometers around this entire area to hear residents and their concerns while other candidates just mainly mail flyers.  Our new Council, with my involvement, will get back to engaging ALL residents in ALL areas.  Together, we will move Lakeshore forward!

Qualifications/Experience: Lakeshore Councillor 2010-2018; 20+ years of volunteering; skilled with grants, donations and networking; studied flooding, roadway practices, recreation planning, trail building, equipping fire fighters, recycling practices and much more; Knights of Columbus Council 2775 Grand Knight, District Warden, 2 term District Deputy for all of Lakeshore and adjacent areas

Accomplishments

Parks: Lakeview Park upgrades: Marina upgrades; West Beach expansion and upgrades; 10 new waterfront parkettes

Recreation: new Atlas Tube Recreation Centre; new trails; new play structures; new Jetty

Community: new Millen Centre and Library; Legion 399 accessibility (federal grant)

Infrastructure: much needed road infrastructure; new and upgraded sidewalks; new water tower; Rourke Line upgrades

Economy/Jobs: When Chrysler needed assistance to keep their plant viable, countless hours were spent advocating for the workers and their jobs including contacting major newspapers and addressing the Windsor Essex Chamber of Commerce; secured grants for private sector to create jobs

Priorities: listening to residents’ concerns; fairness across all of Lakeshore; flood, road and other infrastructure; providing open and accessible libraries; working on traffic solutions with lights and speed limits; maintaining roads; parks planning; recreation planning; source water protection; environment; enhanced ambulance service; desire to keep taxes low; important buildings won’t be left to beyond repair on my watch!

Top three concerns across the municipality:

Making myself available to listen to the interests and concerns of residents, I have found road, flood and other infrastructure is a very important concern. Much can be done that hasn’t been by the outgoing Council that I’m not on.  I am coming back to address our pressing priorities!

To be fair across the Municipality of Lakeshore, we need to assess and respond to everyone’s needs which includes parks, recreation, community centres, open and accessible libraries and very important ambulance service.  At least one more ambulance centre is needed for over 40,000 people now for better response.

Another important priority include general concerns including traffic, dangerous speeding, source water protection and environment.

Tell us about yourself

Wanting to make Lakeshore my home as a young adult, I have lived here for decades and can’t think of my wife Patti and I living anywhere else.  My three now adult children grew up here and are now pursuing career and life goals of their own.  I’m out and about many areas of Lakeshore much of the time.  You’ll see me kayaking, walking, cycling, getting an ice cream, getting groceries and such, always happy to talk with you about interests and concerns.

Being old enough to have the qualifications and experience while being young enough to have the passion and energy, I will devote more than full time as deputy Mayor.  people I know have pointed out that my best qualities are being inclusive, personable, approachable and responsible.  These qualities are key to listening to all residents’ concerns and making things happen for all of Lakeshore!
