The Town of LaSalle officially opened its second fire station Sunday, marking a major milestone in strengthening emergency response capabilities for the growing community.

Located at 2190 Front Rd., the new station began operations with its first firefighter shift, and fire prevention services will also operate from the facility. The station is part of the Three Fire Station Operating Model, approved by LaSalle Council in March 2022, which includes the existing headquarters on Normandy St., the newly opened west station, and a planned east station on Laurier Parkway.

The addition of the second station ensures 87 per cent of LaSalle’s urban area will receive initial emergency coverage within four minutes, well above the provincial average of 72 per cent for urban areas.

“Opening this second fire station underscores Council’s dedication to community safety,” said Mayor Crystal Meloche. “We are committed to equipping our firefighters with the necessary resources to protect our residents effectively.”

The new station is equipped with modern amenities and advanced equipment to support LaSalle’s firefighters in their roles.

“This new fire hall will provide our team with the tools needed to address the challenges of today and tomorrow,” said Chief Ed Thiessen, Director of Fire Service. “It is designed to enhance our response times, reduce risks, and ensure the safety of our firefighters.”

An open house celebration is planned for the spring, giving residents an opportunity to tour the facility and meet the firefighters who serve their community.
