The Town of LaSalle is launching a new community initiative aimed at supporting older adults with the introduction of the LaSalle Senior Active Living Expo 2025.
The free event will be held on Wednesday, June 18, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Event Centre at LaSalle Landing, located at 970 Front Road. Designed in a market-style format without sales, the expo will bring together more than 40 local organizations offering information and resources tailored to older residents.
Organizers say the goal is to create meaningful connections between seniors and community service providers in sectors ranging from health and wellness to social support and recreation. Attendees will find booths and displays covering topics including emergency services, medical supplies, retirement living, community associations, food and nutrition, and home-related services such as real estate and organization support.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for seniors in our region to discover what’s available, ask questions, and explore ways to remain healthy, active, and socially connected,” said Mayor Crystal Meloche.

The expo comes on the heels of an announcement earlier this year that LaSalle has been designated as one of Ontario’s new Senior Active Living Centre (SALC) communities, making it eligible for up to $55,000 in annual funding from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility.
“It’s a well-known fact that social isolation is the number one public enemy for seniors,” said Anthony Leardi, MPP for Essex, during the provincial funding announcement in January. “The LaSalle Senior Active Living program will offer seniors from the entire community the opportunity to stay fit, active, healthy and socially connected.”
SALC programs across the province provide older adults with access to fitness and wellness classes, financial literacy workshops, elder abuse prevention resources, and a variety of social activities. The initiative aims to help seniors remain engaged and close to their communities.
Mayor Meloche welcomed the funding, noting it aligns with the Town’s broader goals to improve quality of life for seniors.
“We sincerely thank the Ministry for supporting our services to expand activities for seniors in LaSalle,” she said. “This aligns with our goal to provide more opportunities for seniors to stay connected and improve their overall well-being. The funding will allow us to offer most activities at little or no cost, making it easier for seniors to benefit from these programs.”
Currently, senior programs are offered at Town Hall and the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex. With the completion of the new Event Centre on Front Road, a third location will soon be available to offer expanded services and programming. Activities are expected to begin this spring.
