Season of Success: Highlights from BRDHS FALL Sports

The Belle River District High School Nobles have now wrapped up their fall sports and have begun their winter sports seasons.

Cross Country

The Junior cross-country teams excelled at SWOSSAA on October 23 Canatara Park Sarnia, with each runner improving on their WECSSAA times. The boys, consisting of Brock Pernal, Ronnie Bondy, Hunter Pula, and Justin Charles took 6th place, while the girls, consisting of Gracie Hulme, Nataile Poisson, Jocelyn Armstrong, Brooke Pinsonneault, Brealta Simon, Sukhmani Kang and Natalie Eveson finished 9th.

Junior Girls Basketball

The team finished the regular season with an impressive 8-1 record and claimed victory in the Belle River Jr. Tournament, defeating Riverside in the final. They advanced to the AA semifinals on November 7, narrowly falling to champions Erie Migration 40-32. Captain and top scorer Julia Cooney led with skill and determination throughout.

Senior Girls Basketball

The Senior Girls Basketball team concluded their season on with an intense game against Catholic Central, ending 58-43. Top scorers included Alexa Beach and Riri Ito with 11 points each. Notably, Nikolina Rosic and Beach played the entire game.

Junior Boys Volleyball

The Junior Boys’s volleyball team had a strong season, highlighted by reaching the silver medal in their only tournament. In the playoffs, they were the first ever team to play in Erie Migration School’s brand-new gym. Despite a close loss, each set was within 5 points. Thank you to Coaches Jacob and Kris for helping the team.

Senior Boys Volleyball

The Senior Boys Volleyball team ended their season with a strong match against Kennedy on October 30, highlighting top defense, resilience, and spirit despite the loss. Congratulations to Harji Deol for making the First Team All-Star as a Middle, and to Quinn Burke and Riley Drummond for being named to the second team.

Swim Team

Coaches Ms. Oliphant and Mr. Schroeder were full of pride as the Nobles swim team excelled in their first meet of the season on November 12 at the Windsor Aquatic Centre. Senior Sophie Johns dominated the 200m freestyle, and Riley Cakebread flew to first in the butterfly. The relay teams, featuring standout swims from Aliya Cabral, shone with spirit. The boys’ team impressed consisting of Nick Stammler and the most coachable Easton McKenzie, showing incredible potential.

Wrestling

On December 1st, four wrestlers from BRDHS competed at a tournament at Western University in London. Camden Gerard had an outstanding performance, winning gold in two different weight classes. The team then competed at a tournament in Sandwich on Saturday December 7th, with many wrestlers making their debut. Paulo Calibani and Caden Gerard both earned bronze medals. Lucas Kreitzer and Bella Lameck brought home medals as well. Thanks to the volunteers from Belle River who helped run the event.

Senior Boys Basketball

The Senior Nobles basketball team has had a strong start to the regular season, securing wins against North Star (58-57) and Essex (47-37) in their opening games. They then battled L’Essor in a thrilling contest, losing 70-59. Most recently, on December 12, they defeated Walkerville, 62-44.

Junior Boys Basketball

The Junior Nobles basketball team is an exciting and promising group, despite their early results. They kicked off the season with a strong win against North Star winning 56-28 but came up short against Essex and L’Essor. On December 12 they secured a win against Walkerville, 53-44. The team is focused on continuing to grow and develop their chemistry as the season progresses.

Boys Hockey

The boys’ Nobles hockey is officially underway, and the team has started strong, winning two of their first three games against St. Joseph’s (3-0) and Sandwich (5-0). With a stellar defense that has allowed just one goal in three games, the boys are proving tough to beat. They are hungry for more success and are determined to bring home some silverware this season.

Girls Hockey

The girls’ hockey team has kicked off their regular season, and although the results have not always gone their way so far, they are showing incredible fight in every game. Their thrilling 3-2 win against Holy Names on December 12 is a perfect example of the team’s determination and commitment to giving their all for the Nobles.

Senior Girls Volleyball

The Senior Girls volleyball team has been outstanding, starting their regular season with two consecutive sweeps against Catholic Central and Lajeunesse. Most recently, they also beat Cardinal Carter on December 12th, two sets to one. The team looks poised for success this season.

Junior Girls Volleyball

As of publishing, the Junior Girls Volleyball team has won all four of their regular season games including sweeps against Cardinal Carter, Maranatha, and Catholic Central.
