The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) recognized six organizations and individuals for their exceptional efforts in promoting sustainability and conservation within the Windsor-Essex-Pelee Island region. The awards were presented during ERCA’s annual general meeting, celebrating those who contributed significantly to a sustainable future.
“It’s very inspiring to have the opportunity to celebrate so many organizations and individuals who have made an incredible impact on the environment,” said Molly Allaire, who was acclaimed as ERCA’s Chair.
“We thank them for all of their contributions.”
The award recipients included the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario – Windsor Essex Branch, which received the John R. Park Homestead Award for advocating the protection of heritage buildings and supporting other heritage organizations in the region. Andrew Pula was honoured with the Education Award for his 25-year dedication to engaging students in environmental initiatives and stewardship activities.
Wayne King received the Volunteer Award for documenting changes at Hillman Marsh and involving the community in its restoration. Green Sun Rising received another Volunteer Award for its role in advancing clean energy initiatives and supporting tree planting and other environmental activities.
The Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary received the Environmental Achievement Award for its 120-year legacy of conservation, education, and restoration work. Gina Pannunzio received the Dennis Chase Staff Award for her kindness, optimism, and dedication to advancing conservation efforts.
Established in 1973, ERCA is a public sector organization governed by local municipalities. It focuses on conserving, restoring, and managing natural resources across the Windsor-Essex-Pelee Island region. ERCA continues to lead efforts to protect and enhance the region’s environmental heritage through its programs and services.
