U11 girls Lakeshore Lightning White team crowned 2025 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup champions

The U11 girls Lakeshore Lightning White U11 team have been rewarded with the honour of the 2025 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup champions.

After months of hard work and spreading good deeds across the municipality, the squad is the recipient of $100,000 for a local charity of their choice as announced on Hockey Night in Canada on March 23rd.

 

The girls were able to rack up an astounding 1,288 good deeds bringing the trophy to the Windsor-Essex area for the first time, and the $100,000 grand-prize donation, which will go to support the Cancer Research collaboration and Play for a Cure. The Lightning are also the third all-girls minor hockey league team to win in a row.

 

“You dedication and hard work are an inspiration to all of us,” said Jeff Casey, event director with Play for a Cure.

“Thank you.”

 

The contest, which is in its 9th season, is eligible to minor hockey teams to take the values they learn on the ice – determination, leadership, teamwork – and use them to support their communities, off the ice through doing as many good deeds as they can and posting them to social media before a March deadline.

 

The girls set off to do as many good deeds as they could, which included everything from volunteering at the local food pantry to visiting senior’s homes and shovelling snow.

 

“This really brought our team together,” said Lauren Meadows, who was personally inspired by Sarah Nurse, a a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Toronto Sceptres of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL), who was promoting the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup.

 

The girls were surprised to see how their dressing room had been given a make-over complete with a logo on the floor.

 

“They’ve shown that our community, like a team, can’t succeed as individuals. We need leaders… young people like them… to lead by example and encourage us to see the importance of supporting our neighbours and providing for those in need,” said Lakeshore mayor Tracey Bailey.

 

“I, and many others in Lakeshore, have been inspired by their work. Such a deserving $100,000 win!”

 

Team manager Chantelle Meadows said that it’s been a journey filled with hard work, dedication and heart,” today we celebrate the incredible achievements of the U11 girls Lakeshore Lightning White team. I hope the good deeds don’t stop here…what you have done here has made a true impact on the community…will make a difference in your lives forever.”
