A major storm sewer reconstruction project is set to begin this July along Front Road in LaSalle, with significant traffic disruptions expected as crews install new stormwater infrastructure aimed at reducing future flood risks.
The Town of LaSalle says the project will reduce Front Road from four to two lanes between Reaume Road and Boismier Avenue. Turning restrictions will also be in effect throughout construction. Officials are urging drivers to consider alternate routes and allow extra time for commutes due to anticipated delays.
A Public Information Centre (PIC) will be held Thursday, June 19, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Event Centre at LaSalle Landing (970 Front Road). The drop-in event will allow residents to review project details and speak directly with members of the project team. Property owners along Front Road between Reaume Road and Gary Avenue have already received invitation letters.
The reconstruction involves the installation of underground stormwater pipes, storm chambers, manholes, and catch basins, along with the construction of new pump stations—one at G. Craig Park and another near the Riverdance building on Adams Lane.
Phase 1 of road work, covering the stretch between Boismier Avenue and Reaume Road, is scheduled to begin in July 2025. Construction of the pump stations will follow in early 2026.
Lanes will reopen temporarily during the winter season but are expected to close again to complete the work. The full project is slated for completion by spring 2026.
The project is a key component of the Town’s Stormwater Master Plan (SWMP), completed in 2024 through a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process. The plan focuses on improving drainage systems that feed into the Detroit River and aims to reduce flood risks while preserving the natural environment.
Work on the Front Road storm sewer is partially funded by the federal government through the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF).
Residents can learn more about the project and receive updates by visiting the Town of LaSalle’s official website or attending the upcoming information session.
