Local youths and police officers came together for some festive fun during the Cookie with a Cop event at the Essex County Library – LaSalle Branch on Dec. 9.

The annual event, made possible through funding from Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers, allowed children to decorate holiday-themed sugar cookies alongside local police officers, including Senior Constable Kristen Ruggaber. The gathering offered a chance for young participants to enjoy creative activities while building positive connections with law enforcement.

Parents in attendance said they appreciated the opportunity for their children to interact with police in a friendly, community-focused setting.

“It’s wonderful to see the kids laughing and creating with the officers,” said Jessica Hamilton, a local parent. “Events like this show them that police are here to support and be part of the community, not just enforce rules.”

Another parent, Liam Martin, said their children looked forward to the event every year. “The Cookie with a Cop day is something our family marks on the calendar. It’s fun, festive, and a great way for the kids to feel safe and included in their community.”

During the event, children worked alongside officers to decorate sugar cookies with icing, sprinkles, and other festive toppings. The interactive activity aimed to foster trust, build relationships, and provide a joyful experience during the holiday season.

The Essex County Library – LaSalle Branch, along with Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers, said they hope to continue offering similar programs in the future to encourage youth engagement and positive community interaction.
