Snow, Wind Prompt Lakeshore to Urge Caution as Road Conditions Deteriorate

With blowing snow and strong winds expected to persist through Thursday and into the weekend, the Municipality of Lakeshore is urging motorists to use extreme caution on local roads as visibility and surface conditions worsen.

Crews began salting roads Wednesday ahead of the system and will continue salting and plowing around the clock as the weather event unfolds, the municipality said in a statement.

Jeff Wilson, Lakeshore’s manager of public works, said parked vehicles remain one of the biggest obstacles to efficient snow clearing.

“Streets without parked cars can be cleared more efficiently, which means we can get to other roads quicker,” Wilson said. “We are also asking for patience. Our crews are working hard and will get to your road as soon as possible, but priority is given to the highest‑travelled roads and emergency routes.”

Residents are being asked to move vehicles off the road wherever possible, especially in cul‑de‑sacs and areas with curb extensions.

The municipality is also reminding residents to avoid shovelling snow onto the roadway, keep garbage and recycling bins off the street, and maintain a safe distance from plows and service vehicles. Children should be kept away from snowbanks and mounded snow until clearing operations are complete.

Snow clearing will begin on priority routes before moving into subdivision streets and secondary roads. Road classifications and winter maintenance details are available at Lakeshore.ca/SnowSafety.

Environment Canada continues to monitor the system, with blowing snow and reduced visibility expected at times. Residents are encouraged to check local media or the federal Weather Alerts page for the latest advisories.
