Winter storm warning issued for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent

Wintry mix could dump 10 to 15 centimetres of snow across region

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement/Winter storm warning in effect for Chatham-Kent – Rondeau Park, Windsor – Leamington – Essex County

A low-pressure system is expected to track just south of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario resulting in a messy mix of wintry precipitation across southern Ontario.

As the track of the system remains uncertain, precipitation type, timing and amounts may change.

Significant rainfall continues today with rainfall amounts of 10 to 25 mm possible by this afternoon.

Rain is expected to transition to snow with the region expected to receive 10 to 15 inches of snow by Friday morning. Ice pellets are also possible.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break.
