ESSEX – Ron LeClair has announced his top priorities for riding of Essex for 2022 provincial election and beyond, vowing to advocate for investments in health care and ending ambulance shortages.
“We need greater investment in our health and long-term care system here in Essex,” the NDP candidate said in a statement on Thursday.
“We’re dealing with hallway medicine and packed emergency rooms, which is then causing code black incidents, where ambulances are not available for emergencies because they’re stuck waiting to unload patients.
“We need more high quality, non-profit home care and long-term care here as well, so that our loved ones can age with adequate care and dignity. I’m going to make sure the new Windsor-Essex hospital gets built so we have enough beds to care for our whole community,” he added.
LeClair, who has been the trustee for LaSalle and Amherstberg on the GECDSB since 2014, has also promised to build new schools and make sure students have enough support in the classroom.
LeClair will also advocate for investments in education, including more teachers and education workers so that each student receives enough support to succeed. Repairing local public schools as well as building new ones in fast growing communities is another top priority.
“Students deserve a high quality public education, one that enables them to succeed, and that means having smaller classes so they can get the right amount of attention from their teachers and education workers,” said LeClair. “As cities and towns in Essex grow, we’ll need more schools as well. As a trustee, I’ve already had two schools in built in the riding. As MPP, I’m going to make sure every child has a great school to learn in.”
LeClair, who retired from the Windsor Police Service in 2021 after 30 years on the job, says he will also fight to make Windsor-Essex a leader in green manufacturing and create thousands of good jobs.
The Ontario NDP has a plan to implement Ontario’s first Zero-Emissions Vehicles Strategy and build electric cars right here in Windsor-Essex.
“We need to secure the future for workers in Essex and that means investing in next generation of green manufacturing, particularly in the auto sector,” said LeClair. “There’s no reason why Windsor-Essex can’t become a hub of electric vehicle expertise. We have the skilled auto workers and a history of building world class vehicles. I’ll work to make sure we’re building the vehicles of the future as well.”
Essex has been held since 2011 by New Democrat Taras Natyshak, who has announced he will not seek a fourth term in June’s election.
