Town of Essex Council has appointed Jason Matyi to complete the current term as Councillor, Ward 3, at the regular Council meeting Monday
The position of Ward 3 Councillor became vacant when Steve Bjorkman was appointed as Deputy Mayor of the Town of Essex.
Council then directed the Ward 3 council member seat to be filled by appointment using a Call for Application process, whereby qualified individuals could apply to represent the residents of Ward 3 by serving on Essex Town Council.
The Call for Application process was completed at last night’s Council meeting when Council voted to appoint Jason Matyi. Mr. Matyi will be officially sworn in as a Ward 3 Councillor at a special council meeting planned for March 14.
Matyi ran as a Green Party of Ontario candidate for Essex in 2011, losing to Taras Natyshak of the NDP.
