Alex Lumadue loves to bake.
For several years now, she has been working out of her home and renting ghost kitchen space to bring her luscious baked goods to the residents of Essex County.
Recently, she realized a life-time dream – opening her first store front – in Cottam.
Recently the entrepreneur held a ribbon-cutting grand opening that included Kingsville mayor Nelson Santos, members of council, as well as friends and family.
“Last year I decided I was going to go at this full force, take a leap, and open up a store front within a year,” said Lumadue. “And here we are. Cooking, baking, catering small parties…I love being a part of your special events or taking care of your holiday baking.”
After going through the culinary program at St. Clair College, she quicky realized her love for the business could become more than just a hobby.
She began small, baking for friends and family and then expanding to the due to the demand for her products.
One of her first ventures included a vendor booth at the Downtown Windsor Market, where she continues to offer her products on weekends.
One of the things she specializes in, is catering to specific dietary needs. Her specialties include pies and cupcakes, galettes, amazing tarts and squares as well as savory puff pastries, like sausage rolls. Auntie Aldoos accommodates vegan and non-vegan orders too.
“I pride myself in accommodating all dietary needs and using local seasonal ingredients,” said Lumadue.
Her products are also available across the county at various locations including Little Foots Foods, The Cheese Bar and Demarco’s Groceries.
Who is Auntie Aldoo?
“The name Auntie Aldoo comes from the way my niece Aryanna would pronounce Auntie Alex when she was just learning how to talk…and it stuck,” she laughs. “Sixteen plus years later and I stayed Auntie Aldoo to all seven of my nieces and nephews, their children, and my friend’s children. It’s just who I am now.”
Alex encourages residents to stop in for a visit, stay for a coffee and take in the atmosphere.
“I wanted to make it a place where everyone is welcome to hang out and have a fancy coffee and a special treat,” added Lumadue, who currently has seven employees.
“I can’t thank my friends, family and the public enough for helping me to make my dream come true. It’s been a wild ride and I’m loving every minute of it.”
