Canadiens defeat 73s in overtime in game six to win Stobbs Division title

Trevor Larue scored twice, including the game and series winner in overtime, as the Lakeshore Canadiens defeated the Essex 73s 3-2 Saturday night to win the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division championship in six games.

With the series win over Essex, the Canadiens advanced to play the Yeck Division champion North Middlesex Stars in the PJHL’s Western Conference final series. The Canadiens will open the series on the road on Friday, April 22 with game two the following night at the Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore. Saturday night’s opening face-off is 7 pm.

In game six between the Canadiens and 7s Saturday night at the Essex Centre Complex, Carter Dembinski of the 73s (2-4) opened the scoring in the game on a powerplay with just over five minutes remaining in the first period before Larue brought the Canadiens (4-2) back to even terms with his 16th goal of the playoffs in the middle frame. The teams exchanged goals on Dembinski’s second of the contest and Bryce Scarlett of the Canadiens in the third period.

Larue’s second goal of the contest and series winner in overtime was scored on the only shot that either had in extra time.

Trevor Heslop made 26 saves for the Canadiens while Jakob Knowles had 20 stops for the 73s.
