Council of the Municipality of Lakeshore have approved a by-law amendment designed to reduce the impact of heavy traffic and extend the life of local roads.
The amendment to By-law 2-2002 (By-law to Regulate Traffic on Highways) introduces year-round load restrictions on all of Lakeshore’s Class B Roads. The change means heavy truck traffic will be required to stick to designated routes, including County Roads.
“This by-law will ensure Lakeshore’s local roads won’t need to be replaced or resurfaced before the end of their expected lifespan,” said Lakeshore mayor Tom Bain. “That means lower costs needed to maintain the roads, but also ensures local businesses and construction projects can carry on without too many extra hurdles.”
The amendment to the by-law does not impact heavy traffic using Class B Roads as direct routes for deliveries to local properties. It also offers flexibility for exemption requests during project and permit approval processes (e.g. fill and building permits, new property access, and development approvals).
As part of the rollout of new restrictions signage will be installed throughout the Municipality of Lakeshore.
