The Lakeshore Canadiens as your Provincial Junior Hockey League Western Conference champions after sweeping the North Middlesex Stars in four straight games.
The team captured the title with a dramatic come-from-behind win in game four Friday night at the Atlas Tube Centre in Lakeshore.
The Stars (0-4) lead what turned out to be be the championship-clinching game 1-0 heading into the third period on a second period goal by Ian Lutowicz and despite being outshot by the Canadiens 41-12 after 40 minutes of play. After Bryce Scarlett and Dylan Western both scored to give the Canadiens (4-0) a brief 2-1 lead in the third period, Vasili Davakos scored for the Stars with just over three minutes of play remaining in regulation play to send the game into extra time.
Kyle Walker’s overtime goal came just over four minutes into extra time to give Lakeshore the series and championship win.
The Canadiens now await the winners of the PJHL’s three other conference championship series. Those teams will join Lakeshore in the first-ever Schmaltz Cup round robin tournament that will be held both in the participating teams’ towns and in neutral site games in Guelph in May to determine the provincial champion
