Jesse Mercier scored twice and Romano Liburdi made 16 saves as the Lakeshore Canadiens defeated the Amherstburg Admirals 6-1 at the Atlas Tube Centre Friday night. The contest was the 2022-2023 Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) season opener for both teams
Aedan Sullivan, Marco Sladoje, Josh Chauvin and Eric Bisson all added single goals for Lakeshore while Chris Bolton had the loan marker for the visitors. Braydin Metcalfe and Sladoje both chipped in with a pair of assists for the home squad. Nicholas Bolton made 39 saves for the Admirals.
The Canadiens scored twice in all three periods while limiting the Admirals to single digits (two, eight and seven) in shots in every frame of the contest.
A pre-game ceremony saw banners from the banners from the 2022 Stobbs Division, PJHL Western Conference and Schmalz Cup championships raised to the rafters at the Atlas Tube Centre. The Canadiens captured their fifth Schmalz Cup title in franchise history on May 16 in Guelph with a 3-2 victory over the Clarington Toros.
Next action for the Canadiens is a road game on September 28 against the Wallaceburg Lakersat the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena before the team returns to the Atlas Tube Centre on September 30 to host the Blenheim Blades.
