Jennifer Alderson – council candidate Ward 4

Why should constituents consider voting for you?

I live, I work and I volunteer in Lakeshore, so I am connected to the community in every aspect of my life. I am hardworking and dedicated to everything I do.

There has been plenty of progress in Lakeshore in the last ten years and I would like to work with council to keep up with the positive change.

I feel that the addition of some new council members, individuals from different backgrounds and different walks of life, would help continue the needed progress for the area.

I will actively listen to constituents to determine their needs and make decisions based on what is best for them.

Top three concerns across the municipality:

Development of necessary and sustainable infrastructure to support the increased population is a top priority for Ward 4 and Lakeshore as a whole. This would include attracting more small to medium-sized businesses, building more affordable housing, completing road upgrades, maintaining and expanding parks/trails and expanding transportation and accessibility projects. Such initiatives would help further the Town’s image as a premier destination to live in and to visit as well.

Addressing flooding concerns in high-risk areas. Especially shoreline areas where flooding is happening more commonly. Water quality continues to be an issue that is not being addressed outside of basic testing by public health. I would like to see Lakeshore and the neighbouring communities work together in studying and cleaning up the lake and rivers. It’s unfortunate to be unable to enjoy our natural resources due to frequent high levels of contaminates.

Greenhouses are a contentious issue and I agree with the majority of residents in not approving their development in Lakeshore. I would vote against current and future greenhouse development proposals, if elected to council. However, keeping traditional agricultural land in the area is important and should be sustained.

Tell us about yourself

I am the HR Manager of an innovative manufacturing facility in Lakeshore. I work in a male-dominated industry where my diligence and drive has won me the trust of my colleagues. I have been married to my husband, Steve, for twelve years. Together we have an eleven-year-old daughter, Charlotte. I was the founder and manager of the Belle River Farmers’ Market, part of the Community Service Advisory Committee and a part of the committee that created Stroll the Street in Belle River. I am also involved with the parent council at my daughter’s elementary school. In my free time, I enjoy cooking and baking seasonal dishes and regularly running, biking and walking on the CWATS trail near my home. I am proud to call Lakeshore my home and I will continue to work as a volunteer and hopefully be elected to council on October 24th.
