Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island in partnership with the Essex County Federation of Agriculture present Open Farms Day in Windsor Essex on Saturday October 8.
Open Farms is an event to celebrate local farms, residents, food producers and more by giving locals the opportunity to explore on-the-farm experiences and learn more about the food culture and processes in the region.
“Tourism Windsor Essex is excited to present this one-of-a-kind event to help educate locals and visitors about the importance of supporting local, and learning about the process that brings our favourites from the farm to your table” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex. “Each farm is offering a unique experience including tours, harvesting, oyster shucking and more to showcase the diversity of farms and culinary partners in our region.”
You can visit www.weheartlocal.ca and register for your free digital pass that will guide you to the 8 on the farms experiences at different W.E. Heart Local program participants.
If you check-in at least five of the experiences you have a chance to win a $500 W.E. Heart Local prize package. All experiences will be free with a registered pass, and give a glimpse into farm life and processes. It is the opportunity to taste, sip and learn through thoughtfully curated experiences, including:

Grape Harvest 1pm to 4pm, taste the fresh juice before fermentation starts

Get up close and personal with a heifer and calf from 10am to 6pm

Witness apple pressing 12pm to 5pm and learn about the growing stages of apples and the making of apple cider
