Lakeshore residents supplied by Union Water Supply System are reminded of the lawn watering restrictions that run from May 1 to September 30 each year.
Watering of lawns may occur on even days for even numbered home and odd days for odd numbered homes. Watering times are from 5 a.m. until 8 a.m. and again from 6 p.m. until Midnight.
These bylaws have been in place since 2003 and during the warmer months assists the water treatment plant with reducing the peak demands on hot days.
- Lawn or garden watering is only permitted on alternate days. Municipal addresses ending with 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 can water on even calendar days and those ending with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 can water on Odd calendar days.
- Lawn or garden watering is only allowed between 5am and 8am and between 6pm and midnight on permitted days.
- Residents with a newly seeded or sodded lawn can apply to their local municipality for a permit temporarily exempting them from these restrictions.
- If the demands on the water supply and distribution system become so severe that the level of service is threatened, a total ban on outside water use will be declared.
- Breaking of these rules may result in a fine up to $5,000
