If you have travelled through Stoney Point over the last month you may have noticed a colourful new addition along Tecumseh Rd.

Scott O’Doud, who has renovated the old library building into his home, was looking for a way to fill in the old library sign left empty in front of his home.

He decided to commission local Essex County artist Neli Brady to create a piece that would fit the old library marquee.

She created the work at home using acrylic paint and transferred the work to etched plastic creating a stained-glass effect.

Recently, the electrical inner workings were repaired and the art piece is now visible – lighting up the street at night.

Each side of the work is uniquely designed featuring different locations from the Town. It consists of the Lighthouse Cove image as the main feature, a Canadian Flag, the rock that contains a time capsule and the little girl statue that sits on the property.

“I don’t call myself an artist, I just like to play with paint,” said Brady, who was a teacher as her career choice “Some artists stick to style, this is my life and my passion.”

Born and raised in the Azores, she came to Canada as a teenager and studied art in university. Having a French and Portugese background she found a passion in teaching spending 30 years with the public school board, however her first love was painting.

She liked that she was able to keep it simple.

“I call it organic, abstract Neli-ism,” she laughed. “I really like the way it turned out. I’m very impressed. It’s fun…I love the stained-glass effect.”
