The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) invites visitors to the Holiday Beach Conservation Area to install two CoastReach stands and contribute to coastal research.
“These stands allow beach-goers to contribute to coastal research,” said Kevin Money, ERCA’s Director of Conservation Services.
“People can simply put their phone in the cradle, take a picture, and upload it to the CoastReach website. The cradle makes it so every photo is taken in the same spot, and researchers can monitor shoreline erosion and changes over time and in response to storm events.”
By sharing photos of the Holiday Beach coastline, participants can help track changes over time. The standardized images will aid conservation efforts, natural disaster response, and coastal management decisions. The data will be accessible to participants and researchers on the CoastReach website.
“By participating in uploading photographs, you will be making a tangible contribution to coastal conservation and management, and we hope many beach guests will participate,” added Money.
The Essex Region Conservation Authority is a public sector organization established by the Province of Ontario in 1973 and governed by local municipalities. For over 50 years, it has delivered programs and services that further the conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in watersheds in the Windsor-Essex-Pelee Island region.
