Sabre teams do not disappoint, as a new round of winter sports begins.
In their first competition of the season, the Sabre wrestling team put in many great performances, as grade 10 Landon Howlett and grade 11 Trey Geddes came away with gold for the Sabres. This team is looking forward to future competitions, as they expect to come away with more medals.
The girl’s hockey team has had an amazing start, with a 2-1 record in their first three games, including a shoutout win against Belle River, and 3-1 win over North Star. In this upcoming week, our female athletes have two games, including their rematch against North Star, and the famed Mayor’s cup against the Wildcats.
The boys, meanwhile, have not had the start they wanted, with one win, four losses, and a tie in WECSSAA play. However, they just returned from a tournament in London, where they finished with a 2-2 record, and reached the finals, losing to Oakridge (London) in a tough 1-0 game. Forwards Liam Thiessen, Ashton Maluske, and Brodie Renaud have been dominating for the Sabres in play so far this year, as they and the rest of the team look forward to what should be a phenomenal battle in the Mayor’s Cup against the Villanova Wildcats.
To start off their season, the junior boys basketball have gone an underwhelming 1-2, with low-scoring losses to St. Anne and Holy Names. However, their last game was a 56-25 win at home against Lajeunesse. Star players for this team include wings Zayd Adhami, and Malik Abouzeeni, C Charlie Hearn, and PF Henrik Mingay. The boys are ready for their next challenges, having only two games remaining until the break.
The senior boys, meanwhile, got off to a similar start, also having their first three games result in a 1-2 record, with a win against St Anne, and losses to both Holy Names and Lajeunesse. Guards Ansue Kromah and Ajay Bopari have led the team from the outside, with Blake Brnardic dominating on the outside.
The senior girls volleyball team had a 1-2 start in their first three games, with their only win coming against Erie Migration in their second game, where they won 2 sets to 1. They are looking forward to the chance to prove themselves against an undefeated Holy Names team on December 17th.
With a 2-1 start, the junior girls volleyball team are making an immediate impact. Their success started in their first game with a close victory over L’Essor, and in their latest, beating Tecumseh Vista. They are all looking forward for the remainder of the season, which continues until playoff time in late January.
Also, congratulations to WECSSAA Football all-stars RB Eli Dobsky, ATH Matt Hummell, DL Jorden Strickland, and LB Spencer Hyjek.
