The Belle River Business Improvement Area (BIA) has announced that the Sunsplash Festival will not be included in its 2025 event calendar, marking the end of the beloved summer tradition after 27 years.
The decision, made by the board of management, follows careful consideration of various factors, including shifting priorities for the BIA and the increasing challenges of organizing the event.
“As with any long-standing event, it’s important to periodically assess whether it continues to align with the goals and capacity of the organization,” said Melissa Lauzon, executive director of the Belle River BIA.
Sunsplash has been a staple of Belle River’s summer celebrations, bringing residents and visitors together for music, entertainment and lakeside camaraderie. However, the BIA has made the bittersweet decision to discontinue the festival as it moves forward with a new lineup of events.
At this time, there are no immediate plans to introduce a large-scale summer festival to replace Sunsplash.
The announcement has sparked disappointment among community members who have long cherished the festival’s role in bringing people together. Lauzon acknowledged these sentiments, emphasizing the strong connection many residents have with Sunsplash.
“While this chapter closes, our commitment to creating memorable experiences for Belle River residents and visitors continues, stronger than ever,” the BIA stated.
“We understand that many in our community are disappointed by the decision to conclude the Sunsplash Festival after 27 memorable years,” Lauzon said. “The Belle River BIA shares these sentiments. We are dedicated to working closely with our business community, community partners and residents to ensure that our events continue to foster unity and celebrate the unique charm of Belle River.”
Lauzon also expressed deep appreciation for the countless volunteers, local businesses and community members who played a role in the festival’s success over the years.
“We’re immensely grateful to everyone who helped make Sunsplash such a special event,” she said. “Your dedication will always be a part of our story.”
