The Belle River Junior Canadiens U11 hockey team is stepping up their game off the ice by learning life-saving skills. The team recently participated in an automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR awareness session at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre, where they discovered there are eight AEDs located throughout the facility.

The session, aimed at educating the public about the importance of AEDs and CPR, highlighted how accessible these life-saving devices are in Essex County and Windsor. The team also learned about the PulsePoint AED app, which allows users to locate publicly accessible AEDs in the area.

“Knowing where AEDs are and how to use them can make all the difference in an emergency,” said a spokesperson for the County of Essex. “We encourage everyone to download the PulsePoint AED app and familiarize themselves with these critical tools.”

The awareness session emphasized that AEDs are designed for use by anyone, even without formal training. Combined with CPR, they can significantly increase the chances of survival during cardiac emergencies.

The Belle River Junior Canadiens U11 team’s participation underscores the importance of community education and preparedness. “It’s not just about hockey—it’s about being ready to help when it matters most,” said one team member.

Residents are encouraged to visit countyofessex.ca/AED for more information on AEDs, CPR training, and how to access the PulsePoint AED app.
