The sun was shining and spirits were high for the Opening Day of the Lakeshore Minor Baseball Association. Teams and coaches gathered at the ballpark to kick off the season with enthusiasm, camaraderie and a celebration of sport. Young athletes participated in three essential baseball skills during the festivities, showcasing their talent and teamwork in front of cheering families and supporters.
Adding to the community atmosphere, the Belle River Lions Club was on hand serving hot dogs, pop and water to attendees. Their presence has become a cherished tradition at local events, reinforcing their long-standing commitment to supporting youth and recreation in the Belle River area.
During the event, the Lions Club also presented a donation cheque to the Lakeshore Minor Baseball Association. Geoff Stephenson, past president of the association, accepted the contribution from Lion Mike Bural, club president Lion Jim Sauve, and Lions Sharon and Norm Hillier. The gesture highlighted the club’s continued dedication to giving back.
For more than 80 years, the Belle River Lions Club has played an active role in strengthening the community through service and generosity. Those interested in joining the club are encouraged to speak with any Lion member or contact Lion Joyce Mahovlich, club secretary, at lionjoycemahovlich@gmail.com.
The day was a perfect blend of sunshine, sport and community spirit — a fitting start to another exciting season of minor baseball in Lakeshore.
