The Sandwich Sabres have wrapped up another exciting fall season, finding both team and individual success in WECSSAA competition and at the provincial level.

Cross Country

The Sandwich cross-country team had a memorable season, highlighted by strong showings at OFSAA. Seven athletes finished in or just outside the top 100 provincially. The junior girls placed 15th overall, led by Julia Carswell (74th) and Chloe Costard (102nd). Athlete of the Month Greyson Pitcher stood out individually, finishing 51st. The season’s headline was the senior girls’ 4th place finish, with impressive runs from Leah Shannon (47th), Alexandra Pardalis (56th), Ava Robson (61st), and Kallie Zajacz (95th).

Senior Football

The senior boys’ football team capped off a strong season with a narrow, hard-fought WECSSAA semifinal loss to Herman. Highlights included a convincing victory over St. Anne’s and a memorable win against rivals Villanova, thanks to Ivan Yakubov’s four-touchdown performance in his debut at running back. The team looks forward to celebrating its achievements at the upcoming awards ceremony.

Junior Football

The junior football squad ended their campaign in the quarterfinals against St. Joseph’s. Standouts Tucolin Downey and Sami Osman played crucial two-way roles, embodying the squad’s determination and work ethic in this rebuilding year. Their versatility and leadership were key, and the team has much to be proud of moving forward.

Senior Boys Volleyball

A playoff run punctuated a great season for the senior boys volleyball team, ending as WECSSAA finalists after falling to the Lasers. The team was powered by first-team all-stars Deklan Vlcek and Eliot Sohler, with consistent support from Lucas Lanspeary and Quinn Favaro. With more than half the roster returning, next season is already looking promising.

Junior Boys Volleyball

The junior boys are WECSSAA Champions! They clinched the title with a dominant 3-0 win over St. Anne’s. Outstanding athlete Hudson Wright and captain Timothy Penaflor led the team, which overcame underdog status in the semifinals and finals to claim the championship.

Senior Girls Basketball

Led by Leah Shannon’s scoring, the senior girls advanced to the WECSSAA semifinals, where they fell to top-seeded Holy Names. Their resilience and team effort were hallmarks of a successful season, with the squad looking forward to building on this year’s progress.

Junior Girls Basketball

Finishing with a 4-4 record and a playoff appearance, the junior girls basketball team, led by Neve Brockbank, showed impressive growth and perseverance. With their eyes on next year, this resilient group is eager to take the next step.
