The Town of LaSalle officially welcomed residents to The Loop, a new multi-use skate and recreational trail at LaSalle Landing waterfront, during a festive grand opening event.
The celebration, which began at 6:00 pm at 1010 Front Road, drew families and community members eager to experience the new year-round destination along the Heritage Detroit River.
“The Loop is more than just a skate trail—it’s a place for families and friends to come together and enjoy the beauty of our waterfront in every season,” said Mayor Crystal Meloche during the evening’s festivities.
“We are so excited to have you here. This project reflects the very best of LaSalle,” she said.
Established in 2025, The Loop is a multi-use recreational trail that served residents throughout the summer for walking, jogging, biking, and in-line skating. During the colder months, the trail functions as an ice-skating loop, with ice plant mechanical equipment maintaining frozen conditions.
The event kicked off with a fire show performance by HoopYou, followed by an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:30 pm with Mayor Meloche and LaSalle Council members. Attendees were then invited to skate on The Loop and explore the trail’s sidewalk perimeter.
The evening featured appearances by Snowflake Fairies with illuminated wings, local skating organizations including Skate LaSalle, the LaSalle Vipers, and the LaSalle Minor Hockey Association.
Families enjoyed face painting, balloon twisting, visits with Santa Claus, and performances by local magician Ron Gudel at the Holiday Magic Station. Roaming Snow Sisters and other holiday characters added to the festive atmosphere.
The Loop is part of a broader redevelopment initiative transforming the LaSalle Landing waterfront area into a vibrant community gathering space. As an outdoor ice rink, skating conditions will depend on weather, with updates available through the Town of LaSalle’s social media channels and at The Loop at LaSalle Landing.
